The school aims to open for the 2030/31 school year, preferable at Lienaustraße 32.

As part of the „Schule Berne“ project (PSB), we are striving for a long-term collaboration.

Currently, assessments are underway to determine if AURORA can open as an integral part of the Schule Berne project. The plan is to start as a very small, family-like school: with an initial cohort of 24 students, AURORA would only require a few rooms. Our pedagogical concept would benefit immensely from being embedded in the overall project: open functional spaces, plenty of room for projects, and close integration into the local neighborhood are central pillars of our vision.

Background: The former buildings of the Berne School are located in Farmsen-Berne – a district characterized by a blend of green landscapes and urban life. The grounds belong to the City of Hamburg, which has transferred them to the non-profit cooperative fux eG under a heritage building lease (Erbbaurecht); the administration is managed by the PSB. Together, they are committed to renovating and collectively using the historic Fritz Schumacher school building for the benefit of the neighborhood through culture, education, and social initiatives. AURORA is already part of the interim use of the premises, offering an open playgroup and using the space as an office for the founding of an independent, democratic primary and secondary school.

In order to take these important next steps, realize the initial planning, and further implement our pedagogical concept within our playgroup, AURORA requires 40,000 Euros.
